YSR Congress Party leader Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, son of killed Vijayawada faction leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao, said that the Vangaveeti family would not tolerate the objectionable remarks made by YSRCP Vijayawada Central in-charge Gowtham Reddy.
Speaking to mediapersons at Vijayawada, Radhakrishna said that his supporters were deeply hurt by Reddy's comments against Ranga.
"Leaders of all political parties revere the great leader Mohana Ranga. People who make attempts to criticize him will face dire consequences," he warned.
Tension prevailed on Sunday when a promo of Gowtham Reddy's news interview, where he was commenting on what he said were the murder politics of the Ranga era, went viral.
Minutes after the news spread, Radhakrishna and his supporters proceeded to the YSRCP party office to hold a press meet condemning the remarks. However, the police smelt tension and stopped Radhakrishna and his followers, and security was provided at Gowtham Reddy's residence.
"When I was holding a press meet to condemn the remarks of Gowtham Reddy, the police personnel showed highhandedness and got me arrested," Radhakrishna said. He also found fault with the police for having no concern for female YSRCP leader and former MLA Ratnakumari and the way she was dragged on the road.
"We will lodge a complaint in writing over the incident," he said.
Radhakrishna welcomed the YSRCP's decision to suspend Gowtham Reddy, and alleged that he was involved in two murder cases and also had links with the land mafia in Vijayawada. Ranga had strived for the welfare of all sections of people in Vijayawada, and it was unfortunate for anyone to make objectionable remarks against such a leader, he said.
