Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani today declared that he was leaving the TDP and joining the ruling YSR Congress Party.
He said that he had sent his resignation letter as MP to the Lok Sabha Speaker, and that he would resign from the TDP too in a couple of days.
Nani spoke with the media after meeting Jagan today, and launched into a lengthy diatribe. He said that he had been in the TDP for the sake of his constituency for so long despite knowing that Chandrababu Naidu was a fraud. However, the humiliation had now gotten too much, and so he had now decided to come out of the party and be with CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was supporting the poor, he said.
Nani claimed that he had worked very hard for the TDP for the past 10 years, and had spent his own money for it. He added that he had taken the responsibility for the party in all local body elections. "Despite that, in 2019 I was almost not given the ticket for Vijayawada - I got the ticket only after an uprising from the cadre and the people. And despite my win, Lokesh has been trying to downsize me, and has been plotting to get me attacked by my own family members," he said.
Nani also claimed that when a politburo member of the TDP used derogatory language against him and when at another time another "characterless leader" had said that he would hit him with his slipper, the party did not respond.
"I set aside my own businesses for the party. I spent Rs 2,000 crore of my own money for it. I thought that the party was more important than my own life. Yet, I have been only humiliated again and again," Nani said.
He predicted that the TDP - Jana Sena combine would not win even 40 seats in the Assembly elections later this year. (The AP Assembly has 175 seats.)
