Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today reiterated that even if the Centre did not cooperate, the State government would take up the construction of the Metro Rail that would connect the Old City to the airport, and complete it by 2028.
During the debate on the budget in the Assembly, the CM said that the region was not "old city" but an "original city", and deserved the best of infrastructure.
"Steps are being taken to construct the Metro in the Old City. Even if the Centre does not cooperate, we will definitely take up the project to connect the Old City and the airport," Reddy reiterated.
Reddy pointed out that it was the Congress government that had brought the Metro Rail to Hyderabad, and said that it had always been keen that the Metro cover all parts of the city. He alleged that the previous BRS government had cheated the Old City by failing to bring the Metro to the region despite being in power for 10 years. He also alleged that the BRS government did what was in its own interests rather than in the interests of the people, and had invited tenders for the construction of a 32 km metro line from the Hi-Tech City to the airport only for benefiting a few private companies.
"Our government will build create Metro connectivity from L B Nagar to the airport keeping in mind the needs of the people and the traffic congestion. The Metro construction will be taken up through Chandrayanagutta to benefit the people of the Old City," Reddy said.
