CM To Start Metro Works In Old City On March 7: Niranjan

The TPCC senior vice-president that although the metro rail services were started in Hyderabad in 2017, they were stopped at the MGBS due to the MIM.
Hyderabad | 3rd March 2024
G Niranjan, TPCC senior vice-president, and Chairman, Election Commission Coordination Committee, today said that the people of the Old City and the Congress were elated that CM Revanth Reddy had decided to start the metro rail works in the Old City of Hyderabad on March 7 at Falakunama.

Speaking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan, Niranjan said that although the metro rail services were started in Hyderabad in 2017, they were stopped at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand due to the objections of the MIM.

Not only did L&T not agree to the alternative route suggested by the MIM, it also expressed its inability to execute the work as the agreement period had expired and the cost of the project had also increased, he said.

Even in the all-party meeting organized by the then government on December 9, 2014, the MIM MLAs had created obstacles to the original proposal of the Old City metro. Because of the MIM leaders' blocking, the cost of the metro rail track laying from Imliban to Falaknama had now increased to over Rs 2,000 crore, he said.

The Congress and other opposition parties, and also various citizen forums, had raised their concerns and staged several protests for metro rail facility for the Old City, Niranjan said, but the MIM did not budge. The MIM leaders were solely responsible for the 7-8 years of delay in metro rail services reaching the Old City, and they should apologise to the people of the Old City for this delay, he said.

He added that the people wanted CM Revanth Reddy to release the necessary funds for these works without delay and pay special attention to make the metro services available to them at the earliest, and that the CM was obliging.
