Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to approve the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project.
This initiative aims to enhance the city's connectivity by adding 76.4 km across five new corridors, with an estimated investment of Rs 24,269 crore.
The proposed expansion includes routes from Nagole to the Shamshabad airport (36.8 km), Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km), and L B Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1 km).
The project is slated to be a 50:50 joint venture between the State and Union governments, with the Telangana government committing Rs 7,313 crore (30% of the project cost) and seeking Rs 4,230 crore (18%) from the Union government. The remaining funds are expected to be sourced through loans from multilateral agencies and public-private partnerships.
During the meeting, Reddy spoke of the previous administration's "decade-long neglect" of the Metro expansion, and said that the project had the potential to significantly improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion in Hyderabad.
The CM took the opportunity to also discuss several other issues concerning the State with the PM.
He discussed the State's readiness to bear 50% of the land acquisition costs for the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), and proposed a Regional Ring Rail project to enhance railway connectivity within Telangana and with neighbouring States.
Reddy also proposed the establishment of a dry port near the RRR to facilitate exports and imports, along with a greenfield road and rail line connecting the dry port to seaports in Andhra Pradesh.
The CM also sought Central support for the Musi rejuvenation project, and requested Rs 20,000 crore in financial assistance. This initiative aims to develop Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Isa and Musi rivers, construct 27 sewage treatment plants for river purification, and link the Musi and the Godavari rivers to ensure a steady water flow.
Reddy also discussed the shortage of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the State amidst rising cybercrime and drug trafficking cases, and requested the sanction of 29 additional IPS posts.
He also advocated for Telangana to be considered for the India Semiconductor Mission project, citing the State's favourable conditions for semiconductor industrial units being established.
