Hyderabad | 11th April 2025
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today decided to extend the Metro Rail network to Future City, and directed the concerned officials to prepare the final proposals accordingly.

The CM conducted a review meeting on the Metro Rail expansion at the Command Control Centre. Government Advisors Vem Narender Reddy and Srinivasa Raju, Special Chief Secretary to the Government Jayesh Ranjan, CMO Secretary V Seshadri, Principal Secretary to Municipal Administration and Urban Development Dana Kishore, and Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N V S Reddy participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister inquired about the progress of proposals for the second phase of the Metro Rail project.

Officials briefed him on the current status, including the pending approval from the Union government. They informed the Chief Minister that the Metro authorities had already held discussions with the Central officials in Delhi, seeking approval from the Centre.

As per reports, the officials have submitted Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to the Centre for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, covering a 76.4 km stretch. This includes stretches from Nagole to the Shamshabad airport (36.8 km), Rayadurgam to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km) and L B Nagar to Hayatnagar (7.1 km). The estimated cost of the phase is Rs 24,269 crore. The Centre and the State governments plan to undertake the project as a joint venture, with both parties contributing equally (50:50).

The Chief Minister instructed officials to consistently follow up with the Union government to secure the necessary approvals, and be prepared to commence work as soon as the Centre granted its nod.

He also directed officials to draft a new plan to expand the Metro Rail by 40 km, from the airport to the Young India Skills Development University in Future City.

The government had already proposed to develop the Future City over an area of about 30,000 acres, and considering the city's future growth, the Metro needed be extended up to Mirkhanpet, he said, and suggested that a DPR with cost estimates be prepared and submitted to the Centre.

Along with the HMDA, the FSDA (Future City Development Authority) would also participate in the Metro Rail expansion project, he added.
