Union ministers from the Telangana region on Monday asked the Group of Ministers (GoM) to form a Telangana state with 10 districts and with Hyderabad as its capital.
Briefing media persons after meeting the GoM, Union minister S Jaipal Reddy said that a presentation was made before the GoM, and that a written representation was also given, seeking a "perfect Telangana" with no strings attached.
He said that Hyderabad's revenue division, not the HDMA limits, should be treated as the joint capital for 10 years for both the states, and that its revenues should be utilised only by the Telangana state.
He also said that Bhadrachalam is part of Khammam district, and that therefore, it should be part of the Telangana state.
Jaipal Reddy said that it has been found that Telangana would suffer from shortage of power after division. "Therefore, some formula should be worked out to overcome the shortage till the state establishes its own power plants in the next 10 to 15 years," he said.
Similarly, a tribunal should be formed to decide the sharing of Krishna river waters between the two states, the presentation said.
He said that Article 371 (D) should be continued in both the states, and that there is no need to make any constitutional amendment.
Earlier, Jaipal Reddy, along with Sarve Satyanarayana and Balram Naik, met the GoM for about 45 minutes. The GoM was presided over by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, while P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh and Narayanswamy were also present. (INN)
