Hyderabad has reportedly contributed only Rs. 20,022 crore of Andhra Pradesh's total revenue of Rs. 1,27,866 crore.
Hyderabad | 8th November 2013
Hyderabad has contributed only Rs. 20,022 crore out of Andhra Pradesh's total revenue of Rs. 1,27,866 crore - This information was part of a note circulated by the Union finance ministry to the Group of Ministers, looking into the AP state bifurcation issue.
The break up of figures contained in the note suggested that Telangana without Hyderabad contributes to Rs. 41,391 crore, Rayalaseema Rs. 18,215 crore and Andhra Rs. 47,937 crore.
These figures indicate that Hyderabad, as is claimed, is not the main contributor to AP's exchequer.
Many leaders from the Seemandhra region have termed this as nonsense. They alleged that the government of India is lying to the people so that Hyderabad does not become an issue.
There has been a raging dispute over the status of Hyderabad, as the people of Seemandhra's prime reason to oppose the formation of Telangana is Hyderabad, which they consider the primary contributor to the exchequer of the state.
The GoM will meet members of the home ministry on November 12 and 13 to discuss various proposals that have been made.
The GoM which received around 20,000 suggestions during their meetings with political leaders from all the regions of AP has stated the following, as a part of packages for Seemandhra:
7 IITs, 4 IIMs for Seemandhra
International airport for Vijayawada.
New airport at Tirupathi.
Upgraded airport at Tirupathi.
Upgraded airport at Vishakapatanam.
Port development at Vishakapatanam to facilitate international cargo.
Setting up of a committee to finalise water sharing issues from the Krishna and Godavari rivers.
