A Warangal youth named Umesh Reddy scaled a cell tower located at the Fire Service Office near Metro Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday.
He displayed a placard "AP Needs Special Status, Save Andhra Pradesh, Jai Telangana" written on it.
Reddy scaled the tower amidst heavy rain, and raised slogans in favour of Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh. He said that he would come down only if the AP Chief Minister spoke to him.
He also said that he was a Congress fan and that he was demanding Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh on behalf of the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh.
The CMO officials held consultations with Reddy over the phone, after which he got down.
DCP Madhur Varma said that the youth had stood on the tower for hours. After the police managed to convince him to get off, they helped him to get down using a crane and promptly shifted him to the area police station.
Speaking after he was brought down, Reddy said that the BJP-led NDA government was not giving Special Category Status and was adopting delaying tactics on the issue, and that he had scaled the tower to mount pressure on the Centre.
