TDP workers today staged a dharna in front of the Alipiri police station demanding the release of their arrested colleagues.
The police arrested three TDP workers allegedly involved in
the attack on the convoy of BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday in Tirupati. The convoy of Shah was stopped and some ruling party activists pelted stones at it in support of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.
In protest against the arrest of their party workers, TDP activists led by Tirupati city MLA Sugunamma started a dharna in front of the police station on Friday night. More workers joined the dharna today leading to commotion and disruption of vehicular traffic near the Alipiri crossroads.
Sensing trouble, the police released the arrested TDP activists.
TUDA chairman Narasimha Yadav said that the TDP workers were protesting peacefully against the injustice meted out to the state by the union government, but the BJP workers provoked the TDP workers on Friday, leading to the attack.
