TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is likely to announce the name of the party's candidate for the Munugodu Assembly constituency tomorrow.
Since the Election Commission announced the schedule for the Munugodu by-election yesterday, it is learnt that the party chief may now announce the name of party candidate post haste.
According to party sources, KCR has shortlisted about half a dozen names, including Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, Karne Prabhakar, Boora Narsaiah Goud and Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy's son Amith Reddy.
However, it is learnt that Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy has been almost finalised.
Reddy had contested on TRS tickets in the 2014 and the 2018 Assembly elections from Munugodu. While he was successful in 2014, he lost the battle in 2018 to Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, whose resignation as an MLA has led to the upcoming by-election.
As some party leaders from the constituency are opposing Prabhakar Reddy, the party chief has been in a dilemma for some time over giving the ticket to Prabhakar Reddy, and has been considering other names, especially from the BC communities. However, sources in the party said that KCR has now almost decided on Prabhakar Reddy, and would announce his name after the completion of party's General Body meeting to be held at Telangana Bhavan tomorrow.
