MLC and Telangana Jagruthi President K Kavitha today paid floral tributes to the statue of Komaram Bheem at Tank Bund, Hyderabad, to commemorate his birth anniversary.
In her address, she said that Bheem was a remarkable leader who inspired generations to fight for their communities and their rights.
"While the births of some individuals enter the annals of history, the deaths of others also shape it. Komaram Bheem, through his sacrifice, secured numerous rights for tribal people. Since the formation of Telangana, due recognition has been given to Komaram Bheem. The previous government provided annual funding of Rs 25,000 to each tribal village for Gussadi festivals. In view of the rising costs, the Congress government should increase this amount to Rs 50,000. These festivals are emblematic of tribal culture and must be preserved," Kavitha said.
She alleged that since the Congress government came to power in Telangana, development in tribal areas had been stalled. Telangana Jagruthi, she said, was working to address these challenges, drawing inspiration from Komaram Bheem.
"We are engaging in discussions with tribal communities under the leadership of our tribal wing president, Lokini Raju. An action plan to advocate for tribal rights will be announced soon," Kavitha said.
