Telugu Desam Party floor leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Thursday accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi of ignoring the families of the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the cause of statehood.
Speaking on the Motion of Thanks following Governor E S L Narasimhan's address in the Telangana State Assembly, Errabelli said that the TRS had not given the deserved treatment to those who had participated in the Telangana movement.
Citing instances, he said that although the TRS had gave a ticket to Shankaramma, the mother of Srikanth Chary, it did not taken any steps to ensure her victory.
Similarly, only 1 student had been given a party ticket.
Intervening on the issue, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao said that the TRS had, at least, expressed its commitment towards the Telangana martyrs, whereas the TDP had completely ignored the Telangana martyrs.
He said that the TDP should not have fielded its candidate against Shankaramma, and should have ensured her a unanimous victory.
He said that the TRS government would give Rs. 10 lakhs in monetary assistance to each of the martyrs' families, and would also provide a government job to each.
Defending his stand, Errabelli said that he would have quit his seat had the TRS nominated Shankaramma from the Palakurthy Assembly segment. However, he said that the TRS government could still make Shankarmma a member of the Legislative Council and induct her in the cabinet.
Continuing his speech on the Governor's address, Errabelli said that the people had voted for TRS hoping that their families would get jobs and 3 acres of land.
However, he said that the government did not mention anything about these promises in the Governor's address.
Further, he said that as against the promise of 8-hour power supply, the farmers were being supplied power only for 3 hours.
He asked the government to come out with a long-term strategy to overcome the power crisis. (INN)
