Terrorism & Naxalism Dim India's Glory: Shinde

Technological developments have altered the nature of crime, giving rise to new forms of criminality, which recognize no borders, laments Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
Hyderabad | 2nd November 2012
Union Home Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde said that terrorism and naxalism are shadowing the glory of Mother India.

Speaking at the Passing out Parade of IPS officers at the Sardar Vallabhbai Patel National Police Academy here on Friday, Shinde said that technological developments have altered the nature of crime, giving rise to new forms of criminality, which recognize no borders. The recent incidents in Bengaluru, Pune and other states where motivated rumours and irresponsible use of social networking media posed a new challenge, he added. He assured that the Government of India was leaving no stone unturned for improving the quality of policing in our country.

Shinde informed that the government has sanctioned huge budgets for police modernization. This scheme aims at capacity building of state police forces for meeting the challenges posed by terrorism and naxalism. This fund will take care of modern weaponry, communication and forensic equipment, upgradation of training infrastructure, police housing and computerization, he added.

NPA Director Vikash Narain Rai said that the academy was committed to the development of sister police training institutions in the country. A model police station has been designed this year in the National Police Academy campus.

During 47 weeks of training, 142 officers have been trained, and on Friday they passed out. They include 20 female officers, four officers from Royal Bhutan police, four officers from Maldives police service and 5 officers from Nepal police service.

State Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy and other senior police officials attended the programme. (INN)
