The Nampally criminal court today acquitted all the nine accused in the sensational 2006 human bomb attack on the Begumpet Task Force office for want of evidence.
The court dismissed the case saying the prosecution had failed to bring home the guilt of the accused.
It may be mentioned here that on October 16, 2006, a jihadi suicide bomb attack on the Task Force office killed a home guard Satyanarayana on the spot and critically injured a constable Venkata Rao. The investigation team concluded that a Bangladeshi identified as Dawood was the human bomb.
As many as 20 suspects were identified as being involved in the attack, but the chargesheet could be filed only against 10. Of them, Dawood is already dead. And on Thursday the court struck off the case for want of evidence.
The defence lawyer said that some of the accused had spent 11 years in prison. Most of them were from West Bengal and Malakpet.
Reacting to the verdict, MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi lashed out at the police saying that they had kept 10 innocent persons in jail for over a decade.
Taking to Twitter, Owaisi said, "2005 Hyderabad Task Office Bomb Blast, police couldn't prove conspiracy but the accused lost 10 years of their lives languishing in jail (sic)".
He pointed out that blast material collected at the place of the incident and the material the police provided to the court didn't match.
