There was tension on Tank Bund today during the immersion of the Ganesh idols. Representatives of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsava Samithi started an agitation demanding permission for Ganesh idol immersion on the Tank Bund.
The leaders of the Samithi removed the flexes set up by the police that immersion would not be allowed at the Tank Bund as per the High Court's orders, and some of the heavy fences.
The Samithi representatives expressed anger that the State government and the police were hurting the sentiments of the devotees by bringing in new rules. They alleged that the police had put up the same flexes and banners in 2022 and 2023, and that the people had immersed idols at the Tank Bund despite the restrictions.
They said that the government should immediately make arrangements for Ganesh immersion on the Tank Bund, and warned that they would give a call to all the Ganesh pandal organisers to hold protest programs condemning the decision of the police on Monday if their demand was not met.
By the night, the police caved in and started making arrangements for immersion from the Tank Bund.
