AICC general secretary and in-charge of AP Congress affairs Digvijay Singh, on Thursday, appealed to Seemandhra ministers and legislators to refrain from taking steps like mass resignations, and to "avoid confrontation".
Congress ministers from the regions of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra are
submitting their resignations in protest against the
Centre's decision to form a separate state of Telangana.
"I appeal to all concerned to have patience. They should maintain peace and harmony. We will address all the issues," Digvijay Singh said.
Reacting to the protests in the Seemandhra region over the Centre's decision, Digvijay Singh called the reaction "natural", and acknowledged that emotions run strong on both the sides.
He said, "Sometimes, hard decisions need to be taken."
According to him, the move to form a separate Telangana was a well-thought-out decision.
Digvijay Singh expressed confidence that Andhra can become a prosperous state since it has natural gas, surplus energy and a long coastline. He said that the region has a huge potential for growth and investments.
Further, he said a new capital like Chandigarh and Gandhinagar would be created for Andhra, and that therefore, the leaders from the Seemandhra region should "be positive" and avoid confrontation. (INN)
