Hyderabad | 13th March 2014
Former minister Dr N Raghuveera Reddy, who has been appointed as the president of residuary Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, expressed his confidence that the party could be revived in the Seemandhra region.
Speaking to a press conference, Raghuveera Reddy announced that he would assume the charge on March 15.
He said that a Manifesto and Documentation Committee shall be constituted under the leadership of Anam Ramnarayana Reddy while Chiranjeevi will head the Publicity Committee.
Rajya Sabha MP T Subbirami Reddy has also been included in the party's Seemandhra Committee.
Raghuveera Reddy said that a road-map for the next elections was discussed with AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, who arrived in the city on Thursday for a three-day visit.
Raghuveera Reddy compared the situation in Seemandhra to the circumstances that had existed during former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's regime after the Emergency.
However, he hoped that the situation will soon turn in favour of the Congress party. He said that the Congress-led UPA government has announced several packages for Seemandhra, and that the region could register a speedy growth by taking advantage of those packages.
He condemned the leaders who have been joining other parties during tough times.
When asked about the reported dispute over sharing of space in party headquarters in Gandhi Bhavan, Raghuveera Reddy said that Digvijay Singh will resolve those disputes, and seating space will not be an issue as there are two buildings in the party headquarters.
He also said that he would abide by the Congress High Command's decision on contesting Assembly or Lok Sabha elecdtions. (INN)
