AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, on Friday, reportedly convinced union ministers from the Rayalaseema and Andhra regions to drop the idea of tendering mass resignations.
Union ministers including Daggubati Purandeswari, Killi Krupa Rani, J D Seelam and Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy were all set to resign from their posts at 11am on Friday, along with 10 other Congress MPs.
However, sources say that Digvijay Singh invited them for a discussion, and that his explanation changed the ministers' minds.
Talking to reporters later, Digvijay Singh said that the Centre was trying to convince the Seeamndhra leaders that all their issues would be addressed.
Requesting them to accept the decision taken by the Congress leadership, he was said to have urged them to maintain peace and calm.
He explained to them the benefits of the new state, and reminded them that the Polavaram project has already been declared a national project. He also reportedly told them that that Andhra has plenty of natural resources, surplus power generation and a long coastline, and that efforts could be made to make a new capital better than Hyderabad.
