Irrigation Projects To Be Completed By August 2016

Accusing the opposition parties of making a hue and cry for political mileage, Telangana Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao today said that most of the irrigation projects in the Palamur region would be completed by August 2016.

Speaking to the media at Mahabubnagar, the minister said that Rs. 900 crores was allocated in the budget for the completion of the Bheema, Nettempadu, Koilsagar and Mahatma projects.

The TRS government was committed to a speedy completion of these projects, including the Palamur lift irrigation scheme, he asserted.

"Though we have taken all the preliminary steps and started land acquisition for the Palamur - Ranga Reddy project, the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party leaders are resorting to a mud-slinging activity," he charged.

Jupally also accused the previous Congress government of looting the funds of the project and being involved in irregularities.

Though the Congress government had to complete the project in 2008, it failed, he charged. And while the Centre had allocated Rs. 1,100 crores for the project in 2010, the project was still not completed by the Congress government in power till 2014, which had failed to even acquire the land for the purpose, the minister said.

The project had thus been pending for the last 30 years, he pointed out, and alleged that the opposition parties had began demanding the completion of these projects only after the TRS came to power.

The Telangana Chief Minister was committed to completing the Palamur and other projects to enable irrigation of all agricultural lands in the state, he averred. (NSS)
