Telangana Tourism, Culture and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao today criticised the BJP-led Union government for refusing to grant national status to the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project citing technical and economic evaluations, water shares, and legal issues.
The minister asked whether this refusal did not amount to discrimination.
Rao asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's actions reflected a biased stance, particularly against a State governed by a non-BJP party.
"The Union government is showing a prejudiced approach towards Telangana by denying national status to the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project. We are merely seeking the fulfillment of a pending demand outlined in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act," he said.
Expressing discontent with the Centre's stance, he said that the Union government was enacting new laws and amending the Constitution for its own benefit, but had made little effort to fulfill the long-standing aspirations of the people of Palamuru.
The minister urged the Telangana BJP leaders to advocate for national status for the project if they genuinely wished to support the cause.
