The Telangana government is set to commence the approval process for 3,500 Indiramma houses in each Assembly constituency next week, Minister for Revenue & Housing Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced during a press briefing today at the MLA camp office in Paleru constituency.
Reflecting on the 15 months since the Congress assumed office in Telangana, Reddy spoke of the government's commitment to uplifting the underprivileged and advancing the State's development under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's leadership.
He acknowledged the "economic challenges" inherited from the previous administration but said that the government was committed to fulfilling its electoral promises.
"Despite the disrupted economic condition due to prior mismanagement, we are diligently working to honour all the commitments made by us to the people during the Assembly election campaigning," he said.
He also said that the government would provide ration cards to all eligible individuals in Telangana.
Addressing concerns about the delayed promise of providing 10 grams of gold to eligible women upon marriage, the minister attributed the delay to the State's financial situation.
"The previous BRS government fostered disorder under the guise of development. In contrast, the present Congress administration is actively pursuing both development and welfare initiatives simultaneously. We are genuinely dedicated to improving the lives of the poor and will honour every commitment made to the people, even if it takes some time," he said.
For context, the Indiramma Housing Scheme aims to construct 20 lakh houses across Telangana over the next four years, with an estimated budget of Rs 26,000 crore, of which Rs 7,740 crore has been earmarked in the 2024-2025 Budget.
