"The most backward Chenchus in society have not had proper houses for decades, and the Indiramma government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will fulfil their dream of home ownership," said Telangana Revenue, Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy today.
He announced the sanctioning of 13,266 Indiramma houses for 13,266 Chenchu families under the saturation method in 21 Assembly constituencies falling under the four Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs) of Utnoor, Bhadrachalam, Munnanur and Eturunagaram.
"The Chenchus are a tribal community that traditionally reside in forests, earning their livelihood through hunting and collecting forest produce. It is unimaginable for them to have permanent homes beyond makeshift huts, and many do not live in regular settlements. That is why the State government has decided to allocate Indiramma houses in the locations where they currently reside. No government has even considered this in the past several decades," Reddy said.
"Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has on many occasions recommended the construction of permanent houses in tribal areas. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has also made several suggestions for the development of these areas, particularly in ensuring residential housing for tribal communities. Based on the suggestions and guidance of both the Governor and the Chief Minister, Indiramma houses are now being sanctioned for Chenchus in tribal regions," he added.
The minister said that on Monday he would personally hand over the sanction documents to the Chenchus, alongside local MLA Dr Vamsi Krishna, at Munnanur in the Achampet constituency.
He added that the ITDA Project Officer had been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee the sanctioning process of the Indiramma houses in the tribal areas.
