A doctor working in the Area Hospital in Kondapur, Hyderabad, was suspended from service today on the charge of demanding money from a person for the issuance of a medical fitness certificate.
The action was initiated against the doctor when Minister for Health T Harish Rao made a surprise visit to the hospital, and the complainant brought the matter to his notice there.
Switfly responding to the matter after examining the facts, Rao ordered the suspension of the doctor from service with immediate effect.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao said that State government would not encourage corruption, and promised that his department would take all possible measures to ensure that such incidents would not re-occur in the days to come.
Rao also inspected the gynecology ward of the hospital and enquired about the facilities being provided to the patients there.
He expressed happiness that institutional deliveries were being reported at more than 60% in the hospital, and advised the doctors to conduct scanning for patients regularly in the ward, and to take utmost care while discharging their duties.
