Minister for Health T Harish Rao today inaugurated a dialysis centre and a blood bank on the premises of the Nampally Government Area Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao said that the number of dialysis centres had been increased from three to 102 in Telangana in the last 9 years, and that about 10,000 patients were undergoing treatment in these centres free of cost.
He added that the State government was allocating Rs 200 crore for kidney patients every year, of which Rs 100 crore were being spent for dialysis. Apart from that, a Rs 2,000 monthly pension was also being offered to the dialysis patients in the State, he said.
He also said that about 150 kidney transplantation surgeries were done in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana every year, and that under the Arogya Sri scheme, the Telangana government was offering Rs 10 lakh to each of the patients of the transplants.
The minister also said that the State government had decided to launch a "KCR Nutrition Kit" program across Telangana soon, and that Rs 250 crore had been earmarked for the implementation of the program.
