Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today condemned the attack on BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy during an election campaign in Surampally village of Doulatabad mandal in Siddipet district.
In a press release, the Chief Minister said that such physical attacks had no place in a democratic society.
He said that it was a shame that some elements were resorting to the politics of physical attacks and murder instead of facing the public verdict in elections, and called upon the people, and BRS leaders and workers, to be vigilant against such anti-social elements during the elections. He asserted that any attacks on BRS leaders and activists would not be tolerated.
KCR also spoke to minister T Harish Rao over the phone and enquired about the incident, and instructed the authorities to ensure that Reddy received the best possible medical treatment for a speedy recovery.
Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan too expressed shock at the attack on the Medak MP. In a press communique issued by the Raj Bhavan, the Governor said that violence had no place in a democracy, and that such incidents were a threat to the democratic process.
The Governor also said that she had directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take stringent measures to investigate and ensure the safety of the contesting candidates and campaigners during the election period.
"It is essential to maintain a peaceful and secure environment for free and fair elections. I wish him a speedy recovery," she added.
