Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has directed the officials and volunteers of the state unit of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to remain on high alert throughout the remainder of the rainy season and to extend help to the flood-affected people.
Speaking to Raj Bhavan officials and the district units of the IRCS at a virtual meeting from Puducherry, the Governor expressed concern over the loss of property and crops, and the inundation of low-lying areas in Telangana caused by the recent rains.
She instructed the Raj Bhavan officials to coordinate with the relevant government departments and the Red Cross to extend relief to the needy.
Emphasising the need to distribute medicines, food, blankets, utensils and other essential materials in flood-hit regions, Soundararajan suggested that all the district units of the society establish control rooms and take steps to coordinate relief activities in rain-affected areas.
"Health officials need to monitor and contain the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria and monitor the Covid-19 situation as well. Coordinate with government agencies to carry out rescue activities and distribute relief materials, provide shelter and extend all the possible help to those affected by the rains," she added.
Secretary to Governor K Surendra Mohan updated Soundararajan about the rainfall levels and the flood situation in different parts of Telangana while IRCS functionaries K Madan Mohan Rao, Vijay Kumar, Vijay Babu, Srinivas, and Arun appraised her of the relief work being undertaken by the body.
Other senior officials of the Raj Bhavan were also present for the meeting.
