Flood Relief Works Lax: Naidu

The state government has totally failed in taking up rescue and relief operations in the rain-affected coastal Andhra districts, says Chandrababu Naidu.
Hyderabad | 6th November 2010
The state government has totally failed in taking up rescue and relief operations in the rain-affected coastal Andhra districts, accused Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday.

Talking to media persons after inspecting rain-hit areas in the East Godavari district, the TDP chief demanded the resignation of chief minister K Rosaiah for his "failure in taking up relief and rescue operations in the district" despite the advanced super cyclone warning issued by the meteorological department for coastal districts.

When the flood victims were seeking help from government officials, the CM was busy in conducting an aerial survey without attempting to know the problems of people, he said.

Stating that the CM's aerial survey would not serve any purpose, Naidu asked him to contact the victims personally to know their problems and the officials' indifferent attitude in taking up relief works.

The former chief minister said that the TDP would not be a mute spectator, and warned that his party would fight to get adequate relief for the victims. Naidu stated that the TDP would not politicize the rain victims' issue, and would also fight for compensation for farmers who lost their crops in the floods.

He also criticized the police for arresting TDP leaders in Krishna district during the chief minister's visit.

Earlier, the Opposition leaders viewed photos of the flood damage, exhibited at the R&B Guest House in the district.

The former chief minister inspected rain-ravaged Karapa, Kajuluru and Dudduru mandals in the district, and enquired about the relief operations.
