A meeting of the Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), chaired by Justice Dr Shameem Akther, today took suo motu cognizance of two critical matters reported in the media.
In the first case, the Commission took note of disturbing reports published in various newspapers on July 27 and 28 regarding alleged illegal and unethical surrogacy practices at Universal Srushti Fertility Centre in Secunderabad and its associated clinics in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
In response, the TGHRC directed the Principal Secretary of Health, Medical and Family Welfare to submit a detailed report on the matter by August 28.
In the second case, the Commission also took suo motu cognizance of news reports published on July 28 concerning a serious food poisoning incident at the Mahatma Jyothiba Phule BC Welfare Gurukul School near Uyyalawada in Nagarkurnool district. The TGHRC called for a comprehensive report from the Chief Secretary to be submitted by August 28.
