Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today instructed government officials and public representatives to take steps to protect the lives and properties of the public as the state continues to witness incessant rains and flooding.
District Collectors, SPs, revenue officials, and R&B officers were told to take flood prevention measures in the areas close to the catchments in the Godavari basin after heavy rains caused them to overflow. Residents of these areas were urged to stay at home as lakes and rivulets are overflowing.
The upper riparian regions of the state reported heavy rains as well. Officials were forced to release waters from several catchments in the Krishna basin, causing heavy inundation to areas close by. Following this, KCR instructed ministers and MLAs to remain in their districts and Constituencies and work to monitor the flood situation regularly.
Further, the CM directed Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy to monitor the preventive measures being taken in Balkonda and Nizamabad and told Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to depute NDRF teams to Nirmal town which is currently flooded. He also asked TRS leaders and cadres to work at the Telangana Bhavan to keep an eye on the situation.
Since torrential downpours have been predicted over the next two days, the CM reiterated his instructions to officials while urging the public to exercise caution while moving about.
