The Telangana government is set to organize a Gulf Martyrs' Commemoration Meeting at Praja Bhavan, Hyderabad, to honour the families of workers who lost their lives while working in Gulf countries.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will attend the event, share a meal with the bereaved families, and offer assurances of the State's support.
Anil Eeravathri, Chairman of the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation and former MLA, said that the government was commited to supporting these families.
He said that Telangana was the first State in India to provide an ex-gratia financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of each deceased Gulf worker, recognizing their contributions as akin to those of soldiers.
In line with this commitment, the CM had recently authorised the disbursement of Rs 4.70 crore, allocating Rs 5 lakh each to the families of 94 deceased Gulf workers, he said.
The Telangana government has initiated steps to address the challenges faced by Gulf migrant workers. The Gulf Bharosa program initiated by the State aims to provide comprehensive support to Gulf migrant workers and their families. In October 2024, the State sanctioned Rs 6.45 crore as ex-gratia to the families of workers who died while working in Gulf countries, with the ex-gratia amount fixed at Rs 5 lakh per family.
Furthering these efforts, in November 2024, the Telangana CM handed over sanction letters to the families of 17 deceased Gulf migrant workers, for each to receive Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia.
During this event, the Chief Minister also proposed the establishment of a Gulf Welfare Board to ensure the comprehensive welfare of Gulf migrant workers and their families.
