In a significant move, the Telangana government today allocated Rs 10.6 crore for ex-gratia payments to the families of Telangana Gulf workers who passed away after December 7, 2023 (when the Congress came to power).
BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar released the Government Order (GO) copies for the Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia payment and handed them over to the leaders of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) NRI Cell, Dr B M Vinod Kumar, Manda Bheem Reddy and Chennamaneni Srinivas Rao, at the Secretariat.
"This initiative marks a historic moment, as it is the first instance in the country where families of deceased Gulf workers will receive such a substantial ex-gratia amount," Prabhakar said.
He said that the payments would be processed through district Collectors.
Vinod Kumar expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, saying that the State government had resolved a long-standing issue of neglect faced by Gulf workers.
He acknowledged Prabhakar's efforts in getting the welfare GO for Gulf workers issued, and said that no other State in India offered such assistance.
The minister urged the families of eligible deceased Gulf workers to apply for the ex-gratia payments at their district Collector's office.
