The people of the State celebrated the Telangana Formation Day with pomp and fervour today.
Leaders from different political parties, unions and organisations hoisted the national flag in their respective areas and spoke about the unsung heroes of India's youngest State, which celebrates its eight anniversary today.
To mark the occasion, a range of events and cultural activities were organised by both government and private organisations across the State.
Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy hoisted the national flag on the premises of the Council building while Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy unfurled the flag on the premises of the Assembly.
Almost all ministers led the celebrations in their native districts. Minister for Forests Indrakaran Reddy hoisted the national flag at his Shastri Nagar camp office in Nirmal district. Reddy extended wishes to the people on the occasion and said that the State was progressing in all sectors.
In Rajanna-Sircilla district, Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao paid floral tributes to the Telangana martyrs at the Old Bus Stand in the district headquarters, and took part in the celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said that unprecedented development activity was being undertaken in the State, and that the welfare schemes that had been designed for the overall development of all sections of people in the State had no parallel anywhere in the country.
Minister for Transport Puvvada Ajay Kumar garlanded a statue of Telangana Talli in Khammam town and later hoisted the national flag at his camp office. He also paid tributes to the Telangana martyrs at the Pavilion Grounds before receiving a guard of honour from the police at the Parade Grounds in the town. He said that Telangana had become a role model for the country and had reached the pinnacle of development under CM KCR.
Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy hoisted the national flag in Suryapet town and took part in the Formation Day celebrations. Lashing out at the BJP-led union government, Reddy said that the Centre had unilaterally merged seven mandals in Khammam with Andhra Pradesh but had failed to fulfil the promises to Telangana made in the bifurcation act.
In Warangal district, Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao led the Formation Day celebrations. The minister spoke about the growth of Telangana in the past eight years, and said that Telangana was one of the fast progressing States in India.
Minister Harish Rao hoisted the national flag in Siddipet town and took part in the Formation Day celebrations there.
