The farmers of Telangana express concern that the grain purchase centres in their localities are buying their produce at prices lesser than the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The farmers belonging to the district of Medak lament that they are not receiving even the minimum support price (MSP) for their harvests. The farmers say that there are irregularities in the measurement of grain moisture - the moisture measurement equipment at various centres show differing measurements for the same produce.
In the district of Nizamabad, the farmers staged a rasta roko on a highway, with their grain-laden trucks parked on either side of the road. They took this step to draw the attention of the government to their woe - they were not able to sell their goods for even the minimal prices dictated by the government.
In Nalgonda, more than 9,000 quintals of grains lie outside the grain purchase centres in the district, waiting to be bought.
In Warangal, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is reported to have recorded the sale of only 13,000 quintals of the 25,000 quintals of grains brought in by the farmers. The grains were allegedly bought at prices lower than the MSP. Grade A grains, whose MSP stands at Rs. 1,030 per quintal, were bought from the farmers at Rs. 900.
