The farmers of the undivided Nizamabad district today held a "maha dharna" program demanding a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 2,500 per quintal for the premium rice variety that they have grown, from the state government.
The dharna was organised by the Congress in support of the farmers, at the Mamidipally crossroads of Armoor.
Farmers from across the district participated in the dharna.
Speaking on the occasion, they alleged that the state government was ignoring their demands for the MSP.
They said that they had cultivated the premium variety of rice upon the advice of the state government.
They also said that they hadn't gotten the expected amount of harvest due to a pest problem, and that they were not in a position to receive the bonus too due to that.
The farmers demanded that the state give clarity over offering an MSP for the turmeric crop, too.
