Minister for Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalakar today said that the State government had so far procured 38.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, which was the highest procurement ever.
Kamalakar held a meeting with the officials concerned at the Secretariat today and reviewed the ongoing procurement process.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the State government had set up a total of 7,000 procurement centres across the State and had purchased 38.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy worth Rs 7,907 crore from 6.05 lakh farmers in the season.
He said that even though the union government was not supporting Telangana's farmers, the State stood at the number one position in paddy production thanks to the support of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and was also purchasing paddy from its farmers at a Minimum Support Price.
Officials were also directed to redress the complaints received from the farmers from time to time, and to provide all necessary amenities at the purchasing centres.
