Hyderabad | 1st November 2012
The pro-Telangana groups on Thursday observed "Betrayal Day" across the 10 districts of regions.

By ensuring unprecedented security around NTR Stadium, the venue for main official function, Secretariat and other buildings symbolising power, the Police could ensure the peaceful conduct of official celebrations. Further, the police kept Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram under house arrest at his residence in Tarnaka. They also arrested Telangana Nagara chairman Nagam Janardhan Reddy when he went to Prof Kodandaram's house.

Condemning his house arrest, Prof Kodandaram alleged that the state was suppressing his right to conduct peaceful protest.

Meanwhile, the pro-Telangana parties registered their protests on Thursday, although in a scattered manner. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders hoisted a black flag at the Telangana Bhavan, their party headquarters at Banjara Hills, to mark "Telangana Betrayal Day". Speaking after hoisting the black flag, former MLA N Narasimha Reddy condemned the Centre and State Governments for delaying the process of formation of Telangana State.

The students of Osmania University too hoisted black flags in the OU campus and also tried to take out a rally. However, the police foiled the attempt, which consequently led to stone pelting by the students followed by lathi charge and firing of teargas shells by the police.

The leaders and activists of Rashtriya Lok Dal led by MLC Dilip Kumar of United Telangana Forum hoilsted black flag at Gun Park opposite the Assembly building. The RLD activists also released black baloons in the air. Prof Keshav Rao Jadhava, RLD Working President Mohammad Riyaz and others also attended the protest meet.

Addressing the gathering Dilip Kumar alleged that the government was suppressing the voice of Telangana at the behest of some Seemandhra leaders. He appealed to the people of Telangana region to join the statehood movement.

Meanwhile, the members of Telangana Advocates JACs hoisted black flag on the court buildings in Secunderabad and Warangal. The police in Warangal arrested TRS MLA Vinay Bhaskar when he tried to hoist the black flag on the Congress Bhavan, the district headquarters of ruling party.

With the Telangana ministers not participating in the official celebrations, the district collectors hoisted the national flags in the Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar districts. Many pro-Telangana employees also boycotted awards that were announced for them. (INN)
