Telangana TDP leader Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy slammed Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao saying that the latter's statements on farmers' suicides were atrocious.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Ravula said that the TRS government was ridiculing the suicides of the farmers.
"It is shame on the part of the government to describe Limbaiah's suicide as due to health problems," he said.
He sarcastically said there was a need to conduct medical tests on the ministers and the ruling party legislators to ascertain their mental statuses instead of giving counseling to the farmers on suicides.
The ministers were striving to please the Chief Minister, he said, and demanded that the government impose a moratorium on farmers' loans.
He also condemned the statement of Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna that the government would not pay ex-gratia to the families of the farmers who committed suicides.
The ministers were each speaking as they wished with no common policy on the farmers' issues, he alleged.
He also said that Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was speaking irresponsibly when saying that only 409 farmers had committed suicides as against 1,253 farmers.
He asked the revenue & health officials what they were doing instead of informing about the suicides to the government.
He also asked the Chief Minister what steps the latter had taken until now to stop suicides by the farmers in the State.
