The State TDP today alleged that the Telangana government failed to protect the interests of farmers in the State.
In a joint press conference on Wednesday, TDP leader Onteru Pratap Reddy claimed that contrary to the claims being made by the TRS government that the State would be a safe haven for farmers, the rate of suicides of farmers in Telangana almost topped the nation.
The farmers were unable to get even the minimum support price for produces including pulses, cotton, maize and soya, the TDP leader claimed. He pointed out that the State government had not yet opened a recognized center where farmers could sell their products.
Adding to his point, the TDP leader said that there were around 545 lifts for supplying water for irrigation purposes in the State, of which too few were working at present.
Other leaders of the Party complained that thousands of farmers and their families had suffered after the Nizam Sugar Factory was shut. The government should initiate immediate steps to revive the factory and save the interests of its workers, they demanded.
