TDP MLA Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao was taken into custody on Saturday by the police to prevent him from undertaking an indefinite fast in protest against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Devineni was taken into custody from his residence in Gollapudi area while he was about to leave for the fast venue at M G Road.
TDP State Secretary Bonda Umameheshwara Rao was also taken into custody by the police.
According to the police, they did not permit the hunger fast due to the imposition of election code in Krishna district for the Assembly by-polls scheduled to be held on August 21. (INN)
