Following the deterioration in health condition of TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, the Delhi Police on Friday foiled his indefinite fast, and shifted him from the AP Bhavan, where he undertook the fast, to a hospital.
A team of doctors, which conducted a series of tests on Naidu on Friday, reported that his health is deteriorating. They advised him to end the hunger strike immediately. With Naidu refusing to end the fast, the Delhi police swung into action, and forcibly shifted him to a hospital. However, it took more than 2 hours for the police to shift Naidu to a hospital.
TDP workers, who were present at the place, initially prevented the police from reaching up to the dais and surrounded it by forming a human chain. Later, they squatted in front of the ambulance and other escort vehicles, to prevent the police from shifting Naidu from AP Bhavan.
The TDP activists raised slogans against the Congress party and its leaders. They also burnt the effigy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. A few TDP activists were also taken into custody by the police.
After much persuasion by the police, Naidu, who looked very weak, walked up to the waiting ambulance himself. He was later shifted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
It may be mentioned that Naidu began his hunger strike on Monday, in protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. However, his fast was hit by uncertainty after AP Bhavan authorities served him a notice asking him to vacate the premises as protests were not permitted there. They also approached the Union Home Ministry and Delhi police seeking their help in this regard.
The TDP leaders refused to vacate the premises and described the move as an insult to Telugu people. (INN)
