The former minister and TDP leader from Nandyal of Kurnool district joined the YSR Congress Party along with scores of his supporters from the district.
A former minister and TDP leader from Nandyal of Kurnool district, Shilpa Mohan Reddy, on Wednesday joined the YSR Congress Party along with scores of his supporters from the district.
YSRCP President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy welcomed Mohan Reddy and his followers by presenting them with the party kanduvas at a function held in the former's Lotus Pond residence.
Others who joined the YSRCP along with Mohan Reddy include Nandyal Municipal Chairperson Sulochana, Marked State Vice-President P P Nagi Reddy, scores of councillors, ZPTCC and MPTCC members, and sarpanches.
Speaking on the occasion Shilpa Mohan Reddy said that he was compelled to join the YSRCP as the Rayalaseema region, especially Kurnool district, was being completely neglected by the TDP regime in the state.
He alleged that numerous representations to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to look into the various issues concerning the district fell only on deaf ears. He said that after late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy passed away the Rayalaseema region had not developed in any aspect.
He further alleged that Naidu's concentration and interest were only on Amaravathi and the Polavaram project. Even his (Reddy's) requests for resolving the various issues confronting the Nandyal Assembly constituency and Kurnool district had no impact on the Chief Minister, he alleged.
Referring to the allotment of the TDP ticket for the upcoming by-elections for the Nandyal Assembly constituency, necessitated due to the demise of Bhooma Nagi Reddy, he said that the Chief Minister had gone back on his assurance to consider his (Reddy's) request for the ticket for someone of his group. When Akhila Priya was inducted into the cabinet, he (Reddy) had not raised any objection. And so when the Nandyal seat fell vacant, his request for the seat should have been considered, he explained.
YSRCP leaders belonging to Kurnool district hailed the decision of Shilpa Mohan Reddy and his followers to join the party. YSRCP MP B Renuka was confident that more and more leaders would join the YSRCP and enable it to come to power in the next elections.
Reacting to Shilpa Mohan Reddy joining the YSRCP, minister Akhila Priya said that it was good riddance to bad rubbish, and that the Nandyal Assembly constituency would get on to the road to prosperity in the coming days.
