The dreaded Swine Flu disease surfaced once again in Telangana as the cold weather worsened further. Since weather was congenial to the spread of the virus, more and more people are reportedly falling victims to the deadly disease and many were dying even after prolonged medical treatment.
On Friday, a woman in Old City (in Hyderabad) succumbed to Swine Flu at the Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, on Friday, taking the death toll to ten since August-end.
A health official said that the deceased was undergoing treatment since January 16. This was the fourth death due to the viral disease in the hospital since January 1. Strangely, all 10 victims were women.
Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr. Venkateshwar Reddy said that a special ward was opened for Swine Flu patients in the hospital. He attributed the spread of the disease to the weather, too.
According to official reports, a total of 3,033 samples were tested from August end to January 18. Of these, 152 samples were tested positive. On Wednesday, six of the 43 cases sampled were found positive.
The Health department asked the people to approach hospitals at the onset of the first symptom of Swine Flu including high fever, sneezing, cough, and body ache.
