Within days of Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu reiterating that the Centre
was not backtracking on Special Status to Andhra Pradesh, former union minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari today said that special status for the state might not happen.
Speaking to reporters at Nandyal in the Kurnool district on Sunday, the BJP leader said that most of the new States were preferring special financial packages over Special Status, since getting Special Status was increasingly tougher and time-consuming.
The Centre would give adequate financial assistance to Andhra Pradesh if the government sent a plan for financial assistance, Purandeshwari stated.
Stating that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre had promised Rs 63,000 crores to AP and released Rs 24,000 crores so far, Purandeshwari said that the Centre was ready to extend any sort of help and cooperation for the State in future, too.
