TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today said that the results of the recent Assembly elections in five states (Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram) would have come as a rude shock to the BJP with the party losing power in three states (Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh) and regional parties forming the governments in the other two (Telangana and Mizoram), and claimed that leaders across party lines were totally against the BJP.
Naidu, who has been increasing damning of the BJP since he broke away from the NDA earlier this year, said that all the non-BJP parties were coming together to oust the party from the Centre, and that the TDP would play a key role in the formation of the alliance. He predicted a humiliating defeat for the BJP in the 2019 general elections.
Naidu said that the Congress government (UPA -II) had given some assurances to Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation in 2014, but that the BJP, which wrested the power from the UPA in the 2014 general elections, had refused to implement its predecessor's promises, cheating crores of citizens of the state in the process.
?We have been fighting with the Centre for years to secure the Special Category Status to AP as promised by the then Prime Minister on the floor of the Parliament, but the BJP has been absolutely unrelenting, and will face the full wrath of the citizens of the state in 2019," Naidu said.
He also alleged that the Centre was trying to intimidate the TDP with ED and IT raids.
