Congress President Sonia Gandhi's birthday celebrations by the Telangana Congress in Nakerekal resulted in a war of words between the Congress leaders and those of the TRS, when the latter chose the same venue to organize their "Diksha Diwas".
Tension prevailed at the venue when TRS activists, led by former MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah, turned up at the venue to organize the diksha. The meeting, hailed as a counter to the "Thanksgiving Day" being observed by the Congress, was called on the behalf of local MLA Vemula Veeresham. However, the MLA himself was not present at the meeting.
The TRS leaders had allegedly increased their mike's volume when the Congress leaders were speaking. Irate Congress MLC Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, who was participating in the birthday celebrations, lashed out at the TRS activists alleging that the TRS leaders were looting the people.
Taking on Veeresham personally, Reddy said that he would take "political sanyasam" if the former won the 2019 elections. He alleged that Veeresham had been collecting "mamools" from (extorting) businessmen of the district, and that the people would teach him a lesson in the next elections.
