Telangana Congress leaders today staged a protest at the Hyderabad Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The demonstration was held against the inclusion of senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the chargesheet related to the National Herald case.
The protest was organised by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), led by its president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud, following a directive from the party's central leadership to hold nationwide demonstrations.
AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan; Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka; AICC secretary Vishwanath; ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Jupally Krishna Rao, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Konda Surekha and Sridhar Babu; MP Anjan Kumar Yadav; MLC Balmoor Venkat Narsing Rao; and MLAs Shankaraiah and Raj Tagore, along with several corporation chairpersons, senior leaders and a large number of party workers participated in the protest.
Natarajan said that Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had vowed to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. "Since then, the Modi government has resorted to vindictive political tactics by issuing notices. As a result, the country is witnessing unrest," she said.
"Those who expose the irregularities of the BJP government at the national level are subjected to harassment through ED investigations and other probes," she claimed. "The National Herald functions as a non-profit organisation, and there are no monetary transactions, so how can money laundering be alleged?"
Natarajan also alleged that caste-based discrimination was evident during the recent Kumbh Mela. She also said that the underprivileged, living in makeshift shelters, were often relegated to areas near garbage dumps in the BJP-ruled States, and were not even recognised as Hindus by the BJP leaders.
Vishwanath accused the BJP of fueling social unrest and attempting to divide the country.
"Summons should in fact be issued to Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman and Rajnath Singh. The BJP leaders are involved in scams and corruption," he claimed.
