KCR Failed Telangana On All Fronts: Sonia Gandhi

The UPA chairperson, on her first visit to Telangana after its formation, campaigned aggressively for the Congress for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Hyderabad | 23rd November 2018
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, on her first visit to Telangana after the state's formation, campaigned for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections for the People's Front (Mahakootami) comprising of the Congress, the TDP, the TJS and the CPI, today in Medchal, and slammed the four-and-a-half-year TRS rule in the state.

Accusing the K Chandrashekar Rao government of failing to address the problems and difficulties of the farmers, youth, students, dalits, tribals and other sections, Gandhi alleged that KCR had ignored the plight of all the sections of the society, and had helped only his family members by giving them political posts.

Gandhi slammed the TRS regime for failing to meet the expectations and dreams of the people. "The issues for which the statehood was demanded, like water, funds and jobs, continue to persist. The Land Acquisition Act amended by the UPA regime to secure proper compensation for the land acquired was dumped by the TRS regime. Also, MGNREGA, brought in by the UPA regime to provide guaranteed employment for at least 100 days, was ignored by the TRS regime. The youth in Telangana are unhappy and in despair due to the lack of jobs," she said.

"The four-and-a-half-year rule of the TRS has pushed the youth and the students onto a wrong path by not addressing their problems. Our manifesto focuses on farmers, the youth, the students and all other sections, and I promise to work for the all-round development of the state upon our party coming to power after the elections," Gandhi added.

Gandhi reminded the people that it was the UPA regime at the Centre which had accorded statehood to Telangana and catered to the aspirations of the people of Telangana.

"We took the decision to accord statehood to Telangana despite sensing the loss to the Congress in the state," she said. "That is our commitment to the people of this region. Vote for the Congress-led opposition alliance, and we will continue with the same commitment to ensure a better future for you."
