As part of the investigation into the phone-tapping case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) today issued notices to BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
As per reports, SIT personnel visited KCR's residence in Nandinagar, Hyderabad. As he was not present at the time, the notices were handed over to his staff.
The notices were issued under Section 160 of the CrPC, directing KCR to appear for questioning at 3 pm on Friday.
The personnel also held an emergency meeting at the SIT office to discuss KCR's questioning. It is reported that they were preparing a list of questions to be posed during the interrogation, and deliberating on the venue for the questioning - whether it should be his residence or the SIT office. Security arrangements and legal procedures are also being worked out.
The SIT is investigating allegations that the phones of opposition leaders, businessmen and celebrities were illegally tapped during KCR's tenure as Chief Minister of Telangana. Several police officers have already been arrested in connection with the case and are currently in judicial remand. It is understood that the notices to KCR were issued based on statements given by the arrested officials.
It remains to be seen whether KCR will appear in person for the questioning scheduled on Friday afternoon or submit his explanation through his lawyers. The development has become a major topic of discussion in Telangana politics.
