A significant development unfolded in the phone-tapping case that had sent shockwaves across Telangana.
Acting on notices issued by the SIT headed by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar, BRS MLC Naveen Rao appeared today for questioning at the Jubilee Hills police station.
According to reports, SIT officials questioned Rao about his alleged associations and the individuals he was said to have collaborated with in connection with the case. The officials recorded his statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
It was reported that Rao denied allegations of having any links with Praneeth Rao and Shravan Kumar, who were among the accused in the case. The MLC expressed anguish over a "politically motivated" attempt to tarnish his image. He said that he had no association with the accused and that he had never communicated with them, either directly or indirectly. He said that he was ready to prove that the allegations against him were baseless.
The SIT reportedly is of the opinion that Rao failed to provide satisfactory answers to several queries during the interrogation.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the SIT was preparing to question BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, along with the party's working president and former minister K T Rama Rao, in connection with the case. Notices are likely to be issued to both leaders shortly.
